Day 4: I want you to have an awesome life

Landing in a new a place can be plenty exciting, but a little stressful.

Whether it be a new neighborhood or relationship or job, there’s this period where you’re figuring out the lay of the land.

One of the things that helps to settle me in a new environment is finding something familiar.

After finishing my first week at Kinsta (woo hoo!), and there were a few instances where I came across something that made me think “Hey, you might be in the right place”.

One that resonated most was a Reverse Engineered episode with Cory Miller.

I didn’t know Kinsta produced a podcast, and didn’t know anything about Cory Miller (or so I thought). However, the podcast title, “Why You Should Strive to Make People’s Lives Awesome”, was something familiar.

“I want you to have an awesome life” is something I say often, and mean sincerely (thanks mom, dad and Earl Nightingale).

Anyways, I gave the episode a listen, not knowing what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised.

While I didn’t know of Cory, I was familiar with his work at iThemes. As a developer, BackupBuddy was one of my go-to tools because it took the stress out of migrations/backups. After hearing some of Cory’s perspective on work, it now makes sense why BackupBuddy is such an excellent product.

More notable is that a podcast geared towards technology and entrepreneurship touched on treating people humanely and the importance of mental health.

This was definitely the highlight of onboarding thus far.

That said, if you’re reading this, the most important thing to know about me is that I want you to have an awesome life. of all the things I could wish for you, I can’t think of anything else more worthwhile.

Here’s the episode with Cory in its entirety.
